Bad Banana - “Stand Next to Me” from Crushfield
The Crutchfield sisters really know how to write a great pop song and their collective and individual work in P.S. Eliot, Waxahatchee, and Bad Banana each drive this point home in different ways. Buried underneath the goddawful recording and rip (128 kpbs? it’s 2011…) of Crushfield are some serious gems and the lead off track, “Stand Next to Me,” was one of my favorite songs from last year. It’s a simple, straight-forward fuzzy pop song about a crush with some lyrical nods to Descendents and Dino Jr. Very relateable if you’ve felt emotions in your life. I’m psyched to see them tomorrow.
