Chin Chin - “Never Surrender” from Sound of the Westway
Chin Chin were a great female trio from Switzerland that wrote incredibly catchy, fuzzed out indie-punk songs which straddled the line somewhere between UK82 (mostly because of the drumming) and c86 to create something a bit different than what a lot of other bands of their ilk were doing at the time. “Never Surrender” is an anthemic ripper that is essentially Oi! lite. It’s got the consistent 1-2 beat, simple riffing, and the “Oh Oh’s” but it’s more melodic and less aggressive in execution. Tell me you couldn’t imagine a room full of skinheads singing along to the lyrics, “No future but we’ll never surrender. Don’t try to bring us down.”
