Violent Femmes - “Kiss Off” from Violent Femmes
Lindsay and I have passively discussed starting a band since we began dating a few months ago. She has a drumset that partially serves as a nightstand and a series of lamps while the rest of it is disassembled in the corner. I look at it every time I walk by and get the itch to play again. Whenever I envision this band I immediately think of Beat Happening, Young Marble Giants, and Violent Femmes. Something simple, but catchy and interesting. There was a moment of realization the other day when we were in the car and she said she wanted to cover this song. I couldn’t agree more. Some of the bass parts are pretty riffy, but the Violent Femmes have so much of the aesthetic I’d want our band to have - stripped down, weird without being totally alienating, catchy, and fun. Now we just need Emma to get back from London and be in this band with us.
