Panic - “I Walk The Same Way Home Every Night” from Dying For It
The first and only time Panic played Chicago, I was at a poorly attended Halloween show in St. Louis featuring no bands I actually liked. I went along with my friends who were playing the show and while it was fun to get out of town for the weekend, I made the wrong call. If I’m not mistaken, that show was the first Punch in the Face show (or perhaps the first show where they had demos available). Truly a solid gig. I found later that Panic covered Unbroken, a band I was obsessed with at the time, and missing that was a real let down for me. My world crumbled. However, I was lucky enough to see them at Posi #s 2002 which made up for missing the Chicago show and my world was restored once again. They were great at that fest and their first two EP’s are some of the best hardcore records of the early 2000’s in my opinion. I always appreciated their lyrics because they dealt with all of the same things I felt at the time, but were never too wordy or poetic (which was also something I enjoyed) in their delivery. Like the bands music they were succinct and raw bursts of emotion that seemed effortless yet perfectly executed.
If you enjoy them, this video from their 2005 European tour should be right up your alley as well.
